4 Star Review of Falling Under by Lisa Renee Jones

Falling Under: a Walker Security standalone novelFalling Under: a Walker Security standalone novel by Lisa Renee Jones

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Book 3 in the Walker Security series and each book can be read as a stand-alone.

This is the story of Jewel, a detective who keeps everyone at arms-length, and Jacob, and ex green beret who is hired to protect her. There are quite a few things going on in this book. Jewel is trying to put away a murdering CEO while trying to find a stalker who has recently surfaced after first making contact 2 years ago.

So, I had a hard time connecting with the story at first. We start back at Jewel’s uncle’s funeral. Then Jacob and her start of really rough since when she meets him she finds out that he had been following her for days without her knowledge. I enjoyed the suspense aspect of the story and the underlying threat from Jacob’s past. There were some amazing moments, but I just wish I would have felt their connection earlier in the story.

4 Star Review of Boys Toys – OH MY! by AM Willard

Boys, Toys - OH MY! (Business of Sex, #1)Boys, Toys – OH MY! by A.M. Willard

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a very light read. Charlie Evans works for Cooper Fields and there is an attraction there like no other, but since he is the boss she is off limits. On a dare from her friend she ends up taking a job as an adult toy consultant. One thing leads to another and Cooper finds out about her side job, but will that destroy what has been building between them or will that be the spark that pushes them into each other’s arms?

I really liked the basis of the story and enjoyed it for what it was. There were definitely some laugh out loud moments. I can’t wait to see what comes next in the series.

4 Star Review of Sold To My Father’s Friend by Cara Chance

Sold To My Father's FriendSold To My Father’s Friend by Cara Chance
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sold to My Father’s Friend is Cara Chance’s debut release. I’m guessing this is a new pen name since it is way too refined for a beginner and she came out of nowhere. That being said it was a good short story and a fabulous cover.

Jace Landon has come to Angelique’s family home to collect on the debt owed by her father. Upon seeing Angeliques, Jace decides that he is going to take Angelique, until Mr. Stammer can come up with the cash to pay him back.

Angelique has no clue why her father would owe Jace money. She is attracted to him although she knows it’s not right, but would he want her if she wasn’t payment for the debt?

This was a quick read and very good for a first book. It was good enough that I was left wanting more. I really liked Angelique and Jace together and hope we get more of them in a future book. Their chemistry was amazing!

5 star review of One Step Closer by Kahlen Aymes

One Step CloserOne Step Closer by Kahlen Aymes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

OK, let me start by saying that really there is not any sort of inappropriate behavior between the H/h since they are not truly related. Yes, by marriage they are step siblings, but their parents are divorced now so it’s not a big deal.

So Caleb has always wanted more from Wren, but his father forced him to go to MIT and leave her behind, but now when his father passes he gets a second chance to let her know how much she means to him, but is it too late?

Like any good story they both actually want each other, but other people are in the way for most of their lives. I really liked the way Caleb took care of Wren when they were younger and her mother was just awful to her. It was an interesting twist that Caleb’s dad forced on him with the choice of what to do with the estate. I typically enjoy a bit of darker story lines and although this is not a dark read there was plenty of suspense and twists that I didn’t see coming. Macy was just an evil person. I can’t believe that Caleb was with her to begin with, but she really did have a pivotal part in the story and OMG it was so good. So I want to make sure to not spoil the ride, but do make sure you 1 click this today before the price goes up!

5 Star Review of Shielding Lily by Alexa Riley

Shielding LilyShielding Lily by Alexa Riley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

An sweet and absolutely perfect insta-love first love story! Ren is a star football player, but is really a loner until he lays eyes on the new girl in school. Lily lies with her father after her mother passed away a few years ago. He is not a good father since he never wanted kids but had Lily to make his wife happy. Now every day she just reminds him of what he lost.

This was a perfect insta-love story. Once they meet their lives are changed and they begin their HEA. I really enjoyed Ren’s protective side and lily was so sweet. The way Ren’s parents were so accepting of her was great. This is a great story and is filled with a perfect ending.

4 Star Review of Handcuffed by Destiny by Lori King

Handcuffed By DestinyHandcuffed By Destiny by Lori King
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

It has been 9 months since Destiny was rescued and she is still shutting everyone out. Every morning she wakes up with nightmares of her experience. Very few details are shared except that she was abducted and abused and the people who harmed her have not been brought to justice. So if you shy away from graphic abuse scenes there aren’t really any graphic details in this book.

Brandon “Bran” Bowers is the Sheriff who found and rescued her and is still drawn to her, but is afraid of hurting her and bringing up bad memories. Finally his family and friends suggest that it is time and that she seems interested in him. Turns out they do click, but it is enough to overcome their pasts?

Unfortunately, I have to admit that I did not read the earlier books (since it wasn’t suggested) and as a result I was a bit lost with all the characters and how they were connected. I think to really enjoy the story and not be distracted by trying to put the pieces together they do need to be read in order. Like how was Destiny abducted twice? Any the burn victim, how does she fit into the story line. The plot seemed a bit choppy to me….now I’m not sure if that is because I didn’t read the earlier books or if that is just the way the plot was written. Overall I did like the interaction between Destiny and Bran and how they both worried about hurting each other. The way Bran was patient with her fears was genuine and sweet. I would like to read the rest of the series. There are unresolved events at the end of this book, so there will be more to come and to get the end of the story you must continue reading.

5 Star Review of The Sex Education of M.E. by L.B. Dunbar

The Sex Education of M.E.The Sex Education of M.E. by L.B. Dunbar
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Mary Elizabeth (M.E. or Emme) is ready to start dating since her husband passed away a year ago. She’s in her 40’s and isn’t looking for another relationship, but wants some satisfaction in the bedroom. Enter Merek Elliot. She first meets him at a neighborhood party as a friend of a neighbor, and her friend Gia pushes them together. Emme is pretty insecure, but they hit it off until she begins to question why he never talks about himself and worries that she is just one of many women in his life.

There is actually a lot going on in this book. Not a bad thing at all, but not what I expected. I thought this would be all about the hook up, but instead it was about two middle aged adults finding each other and navigating the landmines of past relationships, kids and years of baggage. It was truly a moving story and journey which I thoroughly enjoyed.

4.5 Star Review of Monday by EL Todd

Monday (Timeless #1)Monday by E.L. Todd
My rating: 4.5 of 5 stars

Wow, EL Todd is a new author for me and I wasn’t sure what to expect. Based on the blurb I was expecting a simple and sweet romance, but it only scratches the surface. There is so much more going on.

Francesca or Frankie lost her parents years ago and no longer believes in having a HEA. She is finishing up her schooling while working at a coffee shop and dreaming of opening her own bakery. When Hawke stops in for coffee, there is an immediate spark, but he tells her that he is not a good guy. He has plenty of girls warming his bed, but never anything more since he is not boyfriend material. When Frankie and Hawke cross paths in a most unexpected place, will they see each other in a different light or will things get event more awkward.

Now of course I can’t tell you much more of what happens beyond that, but I can say I loved their connection. I was rooting for them to find a way to be together and at the same time waiting for that twist that would tear them apart…..I just knew it was coming, but it wasn’t what I expected at all. Unfortunately this ends in a horrible cliffhanger. You know the kind where you turn the page and want to throw your device against the wall! But the good news is that the series is released so you can move on to Tuesday and see what happens next.

5 Star Review of Hard Rules by Lisa Renee Jones

Hard Rules (Dirty Money, #1)Hard Rules by Lisa Renee Jones
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The only man within the Brandon empire with a moral compass, Shane Brandon is ready to take his family’s business dealings legitimate. His reckless and ruthless brother, Derek wants to keep Brandon Enterprises cemented in lies, deceit, and corruption. But the harder Shane fights to pull the company back into the light, the darker he has to become. Then he meets Emily Stevens, a woman who not only stirs a voracious sexual need in him, but becomes the only thing anchoring him between good and evil.

Emily is consumed by Shane, pushed sexually in ways she never dreamed of, falling deeper into the all-encompassing passion that is this man. She trusts him. He trusts her, but therein lies the danger. Emily has a secret, the very thing that brought her to him in the first place, and that secret that could that destroy them both.

A new series that is amazing! The blurb is perfect and summarizes the main players perfectly. The cover too….at first it didn’t grab my attention, but I love the chess image. That is really the perfect way to describe this book….a complex chess game.

I totally adore Lisa Renee Jones’ writing style. She is able to create a story filled with complex characters and just the right amount of suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat. We know that Shane or Derek will take the reins of Brandon Enterprises when his father passes on, and they are at complete odds as to what will happen with the company. Shane is an attorney and wants the company to be 100% legitimate, but Derek is more interested in the money and power. When Emily meets Shane, she is instantly connected with him, but will she be able to help him or will her secrets hurt them both?

We never learn what Emily is hiding in this book, but we get small bits of her past which seems to allude to family issues which are similar to what Shane is currently dealing with. I love the way Shane is so confident and controlling of everything around him. Emily is smart in her own right and is just the right person to stand up to the Brandon men. I can’t wait to see what happens next in this story.
